A badge you earn, not one you can buy
Badges mark reviewers whose work other established people consistently find worth reading. They exist to help you tell authentic voices from noise and astroturf. Here is exactly how they are earned, in plain English, including what a badge does and does not prove. It is public on purpose: a mark of trust is only worth anything if you can see what is behind it.

The top tier. A long-standing reviewer whose work is repeatedly valued by other established members, with a clean moderation record. Hard to earn, and impossible to fake with throwaway accounts.
Why fake engagement doesn’t work
The usual way to fake reputation is to spin up a pile of accounts and have them like your reviews. That does nothing here, because a like is worth what the person giving it is worth, not one point each.
- Engagement is weighted by the engager. A brand-new account with no reviews of its own counts for almost nothing. A hundred of them, together, are worth less than a single long-standing reviewer. Adding more throwaway accounts barely moves the number.
- A ring that likes each other is ignored. If everyone who engages your reviews is someone you engage right back, that mutual pattern is detected and heavily discounted. A clique cannot vote itself in.
- Only real reviews count. A review has to actually say something - padding, repeated characters, or a wall of emoji do not register as reviews at all - and reviewing thirty different titles counts for far more than reviewing one title thirty times.
- Time and honesty are required. The top badge cannot be reached by a young account no matter how strong everything else looks, and a single upheld moderation report drops a reviewer out of it. Good faith takes time to establish and is easy to lose.
What a badge does prove: that established members repeatedly value this person’s reviews, over time, with a clean record. What it does not prove: that you will agree with their taste. It is a signal of authenticity, not of being right.
